Clubs are the heart of the UON student community. They’re a brilliant way to make new friends and build connections – by doing the things you love! All it takes to form a club is a great idea (like an eggshell-painting club; you can have that one for free) and ten students who want to start it together.


From there, all you have to do is fill out a Club/Society Affiliation Form and submit it to us at unsa@newcastle.edu.au for consideration. You can download the form here:
 


Once your application is approved, you’re good to go!


Applying for Funding


As an UNSA-affiliated club, you'll be able to request funding for your activities, equipment and other expenses. Neat, huh? First, though, you'll need to set up a bank account in your club's name (with any banking institution you prefer), and have two members of your club's executive (ideally the President and Treasurer) complete a Generation Governance course.

Once you've done that, just fill out a request form and email it to us!
 


To allow time for proper assessment and approval, all funding requests must be submitted at least a fortnight in advance.


Additional Support


Funding is great, but it's not the only thing we can provide you! We can also promote your club and its activities through our website, social media and mailing list, and give you advice on anything from sourcing a caterer to running a meeting. Just let us know what you need!

Finally, all clubs should have a Constitution that outlines the way they operate. We’ve put together a Club/Society Constitution Template that you can use to get started, if you wish. (Or, if you want to be really meta about it, you could form a Constitution-writing club and make it your first activity!)

We're currently working on a new set of Club Guidelines that cover certain elements of club management and governance, and should be helpful to you. We'll add these to our website as soon as they're finalised.
