DeNovocastrians
Want to work with synthetic biology, while having fun? Join DeNovocastrians!
For the last two years, the DeNovocastrians has been the unofficial undergraduate team representing the University of Newcastle in synthetic biology competitions.
This year, DeNovocastrians are representing the University of Newcastle in both the Australasian Synthetic Biology Challenge and the internationally Genetically Engineered Machines (iGEM) competition. This year, we aim to solve the problem of toxic pollution by genetically engineering an organism that can degrade these pollutants.
The team consists of fifteen 1st to 3rd year students, and also 6 PhD candidates acting as advisors together with two academic PIs. Being a member of the team, you’ll get hands on experience with laboratory work, outreach, fundraising, experimental design and you will get an experience that last.
