University is about so much more than lectures, assignments and getting a degree. For most of you, uni is your first attempt at 'adulting' – exploring who are you, discovering your passions, learning how to cook something other than two-minute noodles, and making real, lasting friendships based on mutual interests and ideas.

Student clubs and societies are easily the best way to do this. They allow you to seek new experiences, dabble in just about anything you want to try your hand at, or find an instant community of like-minded peeps. When you look back at your time at uni, it's not your lectures you'll remember; it's the time you caught the golden snitch. The time you won your first poker tournament, danced the salsa, or learnt how to say, "I love you," in sign language.

Clubs Week is a time to highlight and learn more about the huge variety of clubs that you can join at UON. It's never too late to join a club (or ten); we'd love for you to get in touch with the clubs that interest you, check out their events and become a member of their community!

Below are details of a Clubs Week event we've got planned, as well as profiles of a selection of clubs you can join. For a full list of clubs, check out our clubs directory and the University's clubs page.

Club Spotlight: Breeaathhe

BREAATHHE advocates for current University of Newcastle students studying health related degrees, by providing scholarships, soirees (you’ll get to hear from some of Australia’s most fascinating rural health practitioners and their experiences in rural health), skills nights (where you’ll get to learn various new skills from your fellow future-colleagues) and access to heavily subsidised first aid and CPR courses (a necessity for most placements).

BREAATHHE is also involved in several programs that facilitate the education and exposure of rural high school students to the varied career opportunities in health.

As a member of BREAATHHE you’ll get access to all these events (and more) for free or prices that you just simply could not say no to. It’s a one-time sign-up that costs $5 and lasts your entire degree, so why not?

Club Spotlight: Radiation Therapy Student Society

We aim to unite the Radiation Therapy Students from the different years, arrange social activities and Radiation Therapy workshops. We also aim to raise awareness of cancer and cancer screening, educate the public about Radiation Therapy and help with fundraising for cancer organizations and research.

We're one of the cheapest sports on campus, and we train regularly as well as attending tournaments to play as our representative team, the Newcastle Fireballs.
